A big comeback is the best revenge.

After being fired from "The Producers" last spring, Henry Goodman returned to Broadway Thursday in "Tartuffe," greeted by a welcoming crowd at the American Airlines Theater.

Opening nighters loved him, along with co-star Brian Bedford; Matthew Broderick was among those who came to wish Goodman well at the post-perf party at Laura Belle. And the reviews the next day were raves, with one notable critic going so far as to write that he felt "cheated" at not having seen Goodman's Max Bialystock. If this keeps up, people will start feeling sorry for the producers of "The Producers."

Goodman said the big boot those guys gave him took some time to settle in. "They had to make their decision based on box office and cast chemistry, but I think they made a mistake," he added.

What originally looked like a career calamity appears to have turned into a big boon for the actor. Does it seem that way to him? "Interesting question," remarked Goodman. "People are definitely more aware of me."
