Viv U names assets chief

Ex-judge Turrini also former partner at Arjil bank

French conglom Vivendi Universal on Wednesday named Paris lawyer Regis Turrini exec VP in charge of asset sales, mergers and acquisitions.

Turrini, a former judge, has worked at law firms Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and Jeantet & Associates on business issues. Most recently, he served as managing partner at Lagardere group's investment bank Arjil.

He will report to Vivendi U senior exec VP Robert de Metz.

Vivendi U has been actively divesting assets since the summer. It is also in the process of a major purchase of telecom group Cegetel.

Conglom is likely to decide the fate of Universal's U.S. entertainment assets in the next few months; options include selling U or restructuring it.
