U Domestic TV ups Bergman

Willoughby to serve as affiliate relations mgr for 'Springer'

HOLLYWOOD -- Universal Domestic Television has upped Betsy Bergman to VP of affiliate relations and advertising.

Bergman will oversee the syndie distributor's affil relations department, handling duties such as co-op programs and promotions for Universal offerings such as "Maury" and "The Jerry Springer Show."

As part of her new gig, Bergman will handle outside media advertising.

"Betsy has proven to be an invaluable member of our division and very deserving of this promotion," said Universal Domestic TV prexy Steve Rosenberg. "In an increasingly competitive marketplace, it is crucial to have someone with her extensive station background, energy and strong relationships in this key position. Betsy will play a major role in the expansion and evolution of this company."

Springboard

Bergman segues from "Springer," where she had worked since 1994. She joined the talk strip as an associate producer before working her way up to affiliate relations manager, and, since 2000, executive director.

Before "Springer," Bergman spent two years as associate producer on PBS interview skein "America: Personal Conversations With Dennis Wholey."

Bergman launched her career in 1990 as a production assistant on Fox-owned Washington outlet WTTG's political talker "Off the Record." She also served as a video consultant for the Democratic National Committee during the 1992 presidential campaign.

Manager hired

Meanwhile, Bergman has brought aboard Wendy Willoughby to serve as affiliate relations manager for "Springer." Willoughby previously handled the same job for the Dick Wolf syndie skein "Arrest & Trial."

"Wendy's high level of professionalism, great attitude and strong relationships with station managers make her the perfect fit for such a demanding position," Bergman said.

Besides "Maury" and "Springer," U's roster includes "Crossing Over With John Edward," "Blind Date" and "The 5th Wheel." The division is taking out new talker "Fergie" for next fall.
