Lion TV roars in Gotham

Domestic division to be headed by Byrne

British TV production company Lion Television has hung up a shingle in Gotham.

Domestic division Lion Television U.S. will be headed by Ciara Byrne, VP of program development. Org has offices in London and Glasgow.

Although Lion has operated production offices in Boston and Los Angeles for specific docs, Byrne hopes New York office will better allow org to work with local talent and develop projects catering to an American audience. Abroad, company's credits include documentary and entertainment programs.

Lion's upcoming slate includes "Miami Animal Vice" for Animal Planet, "Spy Gadgets" for National Geographic and a pair of historical specials for PBS on Lawrence of Arabia and the Medicis. Latter is part of a three-year output deal with English TV distribution company Devillier Donegan Enterprises.

Founded in 1997, Lion TV has such credits as "Frontline" judicial series "Boston Law," tween doc "Twelve" for HBO and MSNBC special "Sex, Laws and Videotape," about the law and prostitution.
