UIP inks Ukraine distrib

First pics to be released include 'Catch,' '8 Mile'

LONDON -- United Intl. Pictures has struck a licensing deal to distribute its films in the Ukraine via local firm B&H.

First pics to be released include "Catch Me If You Can," "8 Mile," "Laura Croft and the Cradle of Life: Tomb Raider 2," "Johnny English" and "The Hulk."

UIP previously worked through East West Creative Associates in the Ukraine, which in turn sublicensed through B&H. The new deal cuts out the middleman, though East West remains UIP's distrib partner in Russia.

"We very much value the relationship we have with East West and this change is simply a reflection of the growth of the business in (the) Ukraine and our preference, wherever possible, to deal directly with local players," said Julian Stanford, UIP's senior VP of European sales.
