Inside Move: Net game for movie link

Show footage coincides with 'Confessions,' 'Catch' bows

Game Show Network is going to the movies.

Cabler has cooked up a pair of promotions tied to the quiz show elements contained within a pair of major December feature releases: "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" and "Catch Me If You Can."

The link between "Confessions" and GSN was a no-brainer. Pic revolves around the secret life of quizmeister Chuck Barris, whose shows have made regular appearances on GSN.

In a three-hour stunt the net is calling "Confessions of a 'Gong Show' Marathon," GSN will surround classic episodes of "The Gong Show" with interviews with Barris and talent associated with the pic, including helmer/star George Clooney. Event will air Sunday, Jan. 5, from 9 to midnight.

"We've been talking to Miramax for over a year about this," said GSN senior VP of marketing Dena Kaplan. "We gave them a lot of 'Gong Show' footage so they could master the look of the show."

For "Catch," GSN will trot out a 1977 episode of "To Tell the Truth" featuring Frank Abagnale, the wily con man played by Leonardo DiCaprio in Steven Spielberg's new pic. Seg will air Sunday, Dec. 29, at 9:30 p.m. and Jan. 1 at 9:30 a.m.
