The Sundance Institute has selected 90 shorts from among 3,345 entries for the 2003 Sundance Film Festival.Selections include new films from helmers Vicky Jenson ("Shrek"), Richard Linklater ("Waking Life") and Rod Lurie ("The Contender") and thesps Illeana Douglas and Sean Astin.
"With a 40% increase in submissions and the quality of the films definitely equaling the quantity, our selection process was more difficult than ever," fest programmer Trevor Groth said.
Both narrative and docu shorts will be presented before selected feature films, while others will screen as part of a short film program in the Frontier section, Native Forum and the animation spotlight. Fest added an additional short program and the toon spotlight to accommodate the increase in submissions.
American short films less than 30 minutes in length compete for the jury prize in short filmmaking. This year's fest takes place Jan. 16-26 in Park City, Utah.
