2 tapped at Digital Cinema

Tsai, Lukk join tech collaborative

Digital Cinema Initiatives, the studio consortium on electronic movie projection and distribution, beefed up full-time staff Tuesday with a pair of exec appointments.

Steve Tsai, formerly director of corporate development, Asia, at Sony Pictures Entertainment, was named director of business development at DCI. Howard Lukk, formerly chief engineer at the IVC post facility, was hired as technology director.

"Both Steve and Howard bring a wealth of talent and related experience to our venture," DCI chief Chuck Goldwater said.

Tsai, who previously worked at CAA and Imagine Entertainment, has extensive experience working on strategic initiatives, including the development of business plans and evaluation of potential transactions and partnerships.

Lukk, a freelance engineer for Quad One Video, HD Vision and NHK, has been involved in engineering management and the design of advanced post-production systems.

"Howard brings the right mix of knowledge from his post-production background, together with his involvement in the digital cinema community," DCI chief technology officer Walt Ordway said.
