Corrente, Marino ride with Revere

Irving, Hodges, Schultz films on slate

HOLLYWOOD -- Filmmaker Michael Corrente has partnered with billionaire Roger Marino to form production and financing shingle Revere Pictures.

Company is currently financing five titles, including Focus Features' adaptation of John Irving's "A Widow for One Year" and the next pictures from Mike Hodges ("Croupier") and John Schultz ("Like Mike").

A former owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey team, Marino was a founder of computer company EMC. Corrente formed Revere with Marino shortly after Corrente finished Robert Duvall starrer "A Shot at Glory."

Corrente, whose credits also include "American Buffalo" and "Outside Providence," told Daily Variety that Marino's reason for wanting to go into the film business was the only sensible one he'd ever heard: Marino wanted to have some fun.

"I like small, intelligent movies," Marino told Daily Variety. In addition to his exec producing all Revere titles, he's also a producer of the upcoming Broadway revival of "Gypsy" starring Bernadette Peters.

Slate set

Titles on the current Revere slate include "Black Irish," a comedy chronicling the hijinks of two African- Americans from Detroit who win a pub in Ireland. Written by Jim Hershleder and Jim Thompson, the picture is out to directors and should go before cameras early next year.

Jason Clark, Corrente and Jim Lampley produce, with Marino and Steve Ricci exec producing. Revere production head Marisa Polvino oversees the project with Sprocketdyne's Teryn Fogel.

Revere is also backing "Door in the Floor," director Tod Williams' adaptation of "A Widow for One Year." It's a negative pickup for Focus, which handles worldwide rights. Jeff Bridges is attached to star in the pic, which Corrente produces with Anne Carey and Ted Hope.

Three in post

Revere is in post on three pics, including Hodges' "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead," starring Clive Owen. Paramount Classics handles domestic, with international repped by Cinevisions/SevenArts. Written by Trevor Preston, Corrente and Mike Kaplan produce.

Also in post is "When Zachary Beaver Came to Town," which director Schultz adapted from Kimberly Willis Holt's young adult novel. Jonathan Lipnicki and Eric Stoltz star; Corrente produces with Amy Robinson and Jay Julien.

Dave Silver, who won the best short prize at last year's Sundance Film Festival, is in post on Revere's "Corn," starring Jena Malone. Bill Hamilton, Frank V. Nash, Alex Weil and Amelia Silver also exec produce.
