Constantin, Permut going 'Blind'

Kimball to pen pic about man regaining sight after years

This article was corrected on Oct. 30, 2002.

Producer David Permut and Constantin Films have teamed with Rob Schneider to develop the comedy "Blind Sided" as a vehicle for Schneider to star.

Billy Kimball has come on board to pen the rewrite on pic, originally written by Tim Garrick and Scott Russell. "Blind" is a broad comedy about a man who regains his sight after many years only to find out that the world is a very different place from what he had imagined.

Schneider will produce pic with John Schneider and Permut via their Permut Presentations and From Out of Nowhere with development being overseen by Permut's VP of production Steve Longi.

Kimball was an exec producer on "The Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn" and is repped by ICM.

Constantin president Mitch Horwits brought project into the company.

Schneider, repped by Endeavor, will next star in Disney's "The Hot Chick" slated for release this Christmas and "Harv the Barbarian" for DreamWorks, which will begin shooting later this year. He is in pre-production on Disney's "Providence," written and to be directed by Jeff Nathanson.

Permut is also developing "White Out" at Warner Bros. with Antoine Fuqua attached to direct; "Kings for a Day" at DreamWorks; and "Prisonaz of War" at Columbia. His pic, "Dys-Funk-Tional Family" starring Eddie Griffin, was acquired last month by Miramax. He is also developing "Brother Sam," the story of Sam Kinison with Tom Shadyac attached to direct and "The Desmond Doss Story" at Bill Mechanic's Pandemonium.
