NYFCC accepts Whitty into ranks

The New York Film Critics Circle has tapped Gotham-based scribe Stephen Whitty for membership, chairman Marshall Fine said Tuesday.

Whitty, the senior film critic for the Newhouse News Service and the Star-Ledger in Newark, N.J., will be eligible to participate in the NYFCC's annual awards vote, to take place Dec. 12. The kudos will be handed out at a dinner in January at Gotham restaurant Noche.

Separately on Tuesday, the 68-year-old org named Us Magazine film critic Andrew Johnston as its vice chairman. Johnston is slated to replace Fine as chair in 2003.
