Mifed eyes bigger mart
Tally has reached 459 films with 263 premieres
"This time Mifed will be a special edition, with more companies attending the market, more and better products, more financial investment by the international companies which reserved larger booths," Mario Ermellini and Giuseppe Zola, CEO and prexy of organizing company Rassegne said.
The Milan mart, unspooling Nov. 3 to 7, has also stolen attendees away from the London Screenings, which runs the previous week.
"Mifed has defeated the London market because only the Milan market offers 29 fully-equipped screening rooms, up on last year," they said.
Registration tally to date has reached 459 films, including 263 market premieres, while 235 companies from 26 countries will be in Milan.
The U.S. will have the largest presence with 93 companies. Italy will be repped by 30 companies, the U.K. 24, France 20 and Germany 9.
Asia has confirmed its interest in the mart: Hong Kong will send 14 companies, Korea 8 and Japan 6.
Premieres include Stephen Daldry's "The Hours," starring Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep and Julianne Moore (Miramax); Alan Parker's "Life of David Gale" with Kevin Spacey and Kate Winslet (Intermedia); and Roger Avary's "The Rules of Attraction" (Lions Gate Enterprises). An Italian premiere will be Roberto Faenza's " The Soul Keeper" distributed by Adriana Chiesa.
Screenings include Spike Jonze's "Adaption" (Intermedia); Brad Silberling's "Moonlight Mile" with Dustin Hoffman (Focus Features); Niki Caro's "Whale Rider" (The Works); and Daniele Thomson's "Jet Lag" with Juliette Binoche (Studio Canal).
