Artisan books distrib rights for 'Boat Trip'

Gooding Jr. pic to open in January

HOLLYWOOD -- Artisan Pictures has acquired the North American distribution rights to comedy "Boat Trip," starring Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr., Horatio Sanz, Roger Moore, Vivica A. Fox and Victoria Silvstedt.

Produced and financed by Motion Picture Corporation of America, International West Pictures, ApolloMedia and Gemini Films, "Boat Trip" is scheduled for a wide release in January. Pic reunites "Kingpin" screenwriter Mort Nathan, in his directorial debut, with MPCA chair and producer, Brad Krevoy.

Pic follows Jerry (Gooding), a jilted guy left by his fiancee (Fox), deciding a vacation is in order after his best friend Nick (Sanz) sells him on the idea of a singles cruise packed with available gorgeous women. However, once out to sea, Jerry and Nick quickly realize they've mistakenly ended up on a cruise of a different kind.

Produced by Andrew Sugerman ("Undisputed"), Krevoy, Gemini Films CEO Gerhard Schmidt ("Baby") and ApolloMedia CEO Frank Hubner ("The Musketeer").

Krevoy praises Artisan

Krevoy called Artisan "a company that knows how to market high-concept movies," singling out the minimajor for praise on pics such as "The Blair Witch Project" and "National Lampoon's Van Wilder" and added that he felt "confident they will achieve the same success here."

Artisan CEO Amir Malin and Krevoy brokered Artisan's acquisition of the film, with Artisan Entertainment executive vice president of business and legal affairs Erin Austin and Artisan Entertainment manager of business and legal affairs Sam Wollman negotiating on behalf of Artisan

Michael A. Mayerson and Keith Fleer of Loeb & Loeb and MPCA's vice president of business affairs, Reuben Liber, handled negotiations on behalf of Motion Picture Corporation of America and its partners.

Artisan is also releasing "Jonah -- A VeggieTales Movie" on Oct. 4 nationwide, as well as "Roger Dodger" on Oct. 25.
