Fine Living grows in NYC

Channel features adventure, transport among other lifestyles

Lifestyle net Fine Living has inked carriage deals with DirecTV and New York's Time Warner Cable.

Launched six months ago by Scripps Networks, channel features original content on five lifestyle aspects: adventure, transport, personal space, favorite things and everyday pursuits. Sked currently has 18 series and 20 specials.

Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

"It's great to have a national presence so early in our life," said net's prexy, Ken Solomon, who believes the net's speed of expansion is unprecedented. "This is strong reinforcement for the Fine Living brand as the right concept at the right time."

Time Warner carriage began Tuesday, making net available to 500,000 digital viewers across the metro area. Agreement also calls for the expansion of sibling net DIY, which already was available in upstate New York. It will bow in the metro area next year.

Pact originated in October when Scripps and Time Warner Cable signed a four-network agreement that ensured distribution for Fine Living and DIY, as well as renewed terms for HGTV and Food Network.

Deal with DirecTV ups Fine Living's availability to 12 million households. Net will be launched Oct. 1. Provider already carries Scripps' other channels, which will be grouped together on the dial.
