This year's slate of international shorts is the largest in the fest's 40-year history. There are also 26 features films skedded for the festival, which will run Sept. 27-Oct. 13.
Lee's 10-minute pic takes a look at the presidential elections of 2000, and will screen before French-Palestinian film "Divine Intervention." Helmer has never been represented at the film festival.
Other titles include Rebecca Hobbs' "Tick," which will accompany opening night film "About Schmidt," and Jonathan Romney's Pinteresque "A Social Call," which will precede "The Magdalene Sisters."
Directors who have screened festival shorts in the past include Martin Scorsese (in 1968), Gus Van Sant (1978) and Jim Jarmusch (1993).
Shorts were selected by Richard Pena, Genevieve Villaflor and Gavin Smith of the Film Society of Lincoln Center.
