Bush bags Gilbert meet

SAG prexy meets with White House staffers

HOLLYWOOD -- It may have not been a case of Saddam Hussein spoiling the party, but Screen Actors Guild prexy Melissa Gilbert's breakfast meeting with George Bush fell victim Tuesday to the president needing to attend to other unspecified concerns.

Gilbert was able to meet with key White House staffers and discuss guild issues including runaway production and copyright protection.

The get-together was scheduled after Gilbert agreed to participate in a White House symposium on "Women of the West" authors by narrating part of the presentation devoted to Laura Ingalls Wilder, the character Gilbert portrayed on "Little House on the Prairie."

The event was part of first lady Laura Bush's American Authors program to promote literacy.
