New gamer isn't so 'Taboo' to TNN
Show will likely debut as weekly primetime series
The basic cable network has ordered 40 episodes of a new half-hour gamer based on the Hasbro board game, to premiere in first quarter 2003. Chris Wylde will host.
Radio . . . With Pictures is producing the series. The company's partners, Peter Isackson and Leslie Greif, will exec produce along with "Taboo" board game creator Brian Hersch.
During each episode, players will try to guess words based on a series of verbal clues. The contestants who are giving those clues, however, cannot say any of the words associated with the answer that have been deemed "taboo."
Lensing gets underway this fall in Los Angeles.
"Taboo" likely will debut as a weekly primetime series, although no timeslot has been decided upon yet.
The series order follows the recent preems of new TNN original series "Oblivious," which airs Sundays at 9, and "Slamball," which appears Saturdays at 8. Both new series have drawn some of the network's best ratings performances ever, particularly among such key demos as adults 18-49.
"We are finally getting to see who our audience is and what they come to TNN for," TNN exec VP of production Kevin Kay told Daily Variety. "We really think 'Taboo' will build on that."
