Miami NBC O&O takes splash with Dolphins
Skein to go behind-the-scenes of Florida team
FINS-TV will run Saturdays at 7 p.m. for 52 weeks. It will feature behind-the-scenes look at the football team, coverage of community activities, including high school sports, health and fitness segments and stories about area residents.
FINS-TV is produced by NBC 6 with its news and sports correspondents; NBC 6 sports anchor and former Dolphin player Joe Rose will host.
The new program comes out of a three-year extension to a programming agreement between the local NBC station and the team.
NBC 6 already airs the "Dave Wannstedt Show," featuring the Dolphin coach, Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. during the NFL season.
NBC does not have the right to broadcast Dolphin games. Most season games are seen on CBS, though away-games against National Conference teams may air on the Fox network. The local CBS O&O, WFOR, has the rights to preseason games.
But FINS-TV will be extended to the local playing field.
As part of the new agreement, NBC 6 will produce video footage for the Jumbotron screen at Pro Player Stadium.
The Dolphins and NBC 6 are also prepping a Spanish-lingo version of the show that will air on the local Telemundo station, WSCV-51, expected to bow in the first quarter of 2003.
In the interim, Telemundo will use parts of FINS-TV in its Sunday night sportcasts when the football season begins.
NBC acquired Telemundo earlier this year, and has been integrating operations in markets where both networks have O&Os.
FINS-TV will also be included on satcaster DirecTV Latin America's NFL pass network. The program will be shown in English on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m.
