Phung rung for laffs as VP at Fox B'casting

Exec came to co. from NBC in 1999

Fox Broadcasting has upped laff vet Quan Phung to VP of comedy development.

Phung, most recently director of comedy, will oversee development of comedy scripts and series for the net. He reports to Tracy Katsky, Fox senior VP of comedy development, who announced the promotion Tuesday.

"Quan has consistently demonstrated his drive to raise the bar on our comedy development," Katsky said. "This promotion comes in recognition of both his skill and his extraordinary level of commitment."

Phung joined Fox as director of comedy development in 1999. Before that, he was director of Saturday morning and primetime series at NBC.

While at the Peacock, Phung worked on development, production and promotion of NBC's Saturday ayem teen laffers, including "Saved By the Bell: The New Class" and "City Guys."

Phung came to NBC in 1995 as an assistant.
