Cable auds turn out for HBO pic 'Blindness'
By contrast, HBO's Sunday primetime premiere of "Hysterical Blindness," a contempo made-for about working-class women in small-town New Jersey, averaged a solid 11.4 rating, helped by the giant 15.4 rating harvested by its "Sex and the City" lead-in.
Another heavily watched Sunday cable phenomenon, E! Entertainment TV's "Anna Nicole" half-hour reality series at 10 p.m., fell off again in the Nielsens to a season-low 1.76 rating. "Anna Nicole" has lost more than half its audience since making its E! debut four Sundays ago, proving it has no chance of matching the ratings of the show it's imitating, MTV's hit "The Osbournes."
In addition to "Hysterical Blindness," which stars Uma Thurman, other cable shows that scored Sunday night include Lifetime's regularly scheduled series "Strong Medicine" (a 2.9 rating) and "The Division" (2.8 rating), TBS' airing of theatrical pic "Jumanji" (2.7 rating), USA's hit series "The Dead Zone" (2.7 rating) and a Braves-Dodgers game on ESPN (a 2.3 rating).
