TORONTO -- The Toronto Intl. Film Festival on Tuesday presented its offbeat Midnight Madness slate of pics about slashers, sex and, of course, Elvis vs. the Mummy.

The eight films from six countries include world preems of sci-fi flick "Alive," based on the Tsutomu Takahashi comic book of the same title, from Japan's Ryuhei Kitamura; and Eli Roth's comedy horror pic "Cabin Fever."

Find out what really happened to Elvis in the Canadian premiere of "Bubba Ho-Tep," from Don Coscarelli, in which Elvis and JFK take on an Egyptian mummy plaguing the residents of their seniors' home.

Brothers Oxide and Danny Pang ("Bangkok Dangerous") bring "The Eye," a Hong Kong/Thai/U.K. co-production in which one character sees dead people. "MC5* a True Testimonial," directed by David C. Thomas, follows the Vietnam war-era group's rise and fizzle.

'Little Eye' can be seen

Mark Evans' "My Little Eye" provides a long-awaited twist to the reality TV craze. It's distributed by Universal worldwide except in Canada where Odeon distribs.

Jonas Akerlund's first feature "Spun" is based on screenwriter Will De Los Santos' drug-fueled life. It includes appearances from Mickey Rourke, Mena Suvari and Deborah Harry. In "Volcano High," from South Korean Kim Tae-kyun, martial arts replace the three Rs.

Added to the list of the Rogers Industry Center's Maverick Filmmaker Sessions are: Michael Moore, Fruit Chan, Tilda Swinton, Brian DePalma and Paul Schrader. New guest speakers at the Telefilm Canada News and Views and Doc Salon include filmmakers Chen Kaige ("Together"), Park Ki-yong ("Camel), Ed Lachman ("Ken Park"), Jennifer Baichwal, Steve James, Udi Aloni and Peter Mettler, as well as veteran cinematographer Jack Cardiff.

The fest runs from Sept. 5-14.
