Documeister Michael Moore is negotiating with Studio Canal to direct and co-write an animated movie that will bear similarities in tone and sentiment to Moore's best-seller "Stupid White Men."
Studio Canal will finance the film. Paris-based Pierre Edelman, who exec produced David Lynch's "The Straight Story" and "Mulholland Drive," will produce via his first-look pact with the studio.
"Stupid White Men" ranted against the decline of American decency, attacking illiteracy, racism and corporate corruption. Moore's new pic will be targeted for a pre-2004 presidential election release.
Moore will co-write with Flicker Lab cartoonists/animators Dan Perkins and Harold Moss. Perkins, aka Tom Tomorrow, is the creator of syndicated cartoon "This Modern World."
Moore's "Bowling for Columbine" nabbed a special jury prize at Cannes as well as a distribution pact with United Artists Pictures. Moore's credits include creating the TV shows "TV Nation" and "The Awful Truth" and helming the docu "Roger and Me," which grossed more than $7 million theatrically.
Moore, who is being repped on this deal by attorney Andrew Hurwitz, first penned the best-seller "Downsize This!" He recently inked a two-book, $3 million pact with the Time Warner Publishing Group (Daily Variety, June 5, 2002).
