No. 2 Mexican broadcaster TV Azteca announced Thursday that it had signed up affils W21AU, Orlando; KKJK, Las Vegas; and K66FN and KSVN, both in Salt Lake City.
TV Azteca said the Salt Lake City stations have switched their affiliation from rival U.S. Spanish-language network Univision.
"Our strong performance in the current covered areas has generated enormous interest from diverse stations in the U.S. who want to tap into the Hispanic market," said Azteca America prexy-CEO Luis J. Echarte.
The affils will receive 50% of ad revenue. With these stations, Azteca now reaches 31% of the U.S. Hispanic population, up from 28%.
In contrast, Univision has about 97% coverage and its second net, TeleFutura, has 72% coverage. NBC-owned Telemundo has a reach of around 90%.
