Neil Hoffman

Entertainment journalist

Neil Hoffman, a longtime entertainment journalist who covered the news of Las Vegas, died June 19 at Burbank's Providence St. Joseph Medical Center of complications resulting from a spinal infection. He was 57.

A Chicago native, Hoffman grew up in New York where his mother sang with the New York City Opera and his father worked in Broadway musicals. The family later relocated to Las Vegas and Hoffman was educated at UC Berkeley.

Following a stint as an actor, he moved into journalism and served as the editor of the Las Vegas Mirror and also hosted a radio show on Las Vegas' KORK titled "Third Row Center," which celebrated the American musical theater.

Hoffman also reported on entertainment news in Las Vegas for Drama-Logue, the Hollywood Reporter and Back Stage West and continued to report on Las Vegas news after relocating to Los Angeles.

There were no family survivors.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday at Two Roads Theatre, 4348 Tujunga Ave (south of Moorpark Blvd.) in Studio City.
