Emmy-winning production designer, set decorator

Charles C. Bennett, a production designer and set decorator who won an Emmy in 1994 for art direction of "The Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All," died June 25 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was 62.

Bennett was recuperating following a liver transplant and had been in intensive care for the past three months when he died.

In addition to the 1994 award, he received the prize in 1985 for miniseries "Evergreen." He was nominated in 1984 for "Chiefs" and in 1977 for "Roots."

His other credits include TV movies "Having Our Say: The Delany Sisters' First 100 Years," "A Lesson Before Dying," "Boycott," "Mama Flora's Family" and films "Hoodlum," "Fled" and "New Jack City."

A Louisiana native, Bennett studied at Louisiana State U. before embarking on a career that would span four decades.

He is survived by a brother.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Thursday at 4 p.m.
