Fox preps Nu deal in S. Africa
Move will not influence relationship with theaters, sez rep
Nu Metro has handled the studio's vid distribution since 1994. Michelle Hemphill, 20th Century Fox's rep in South Africa, said the decision consolidates its home entertainment and theatrical business.
"We are very positive about the South African film market and see huge growth potential with the emerging market, and subsequently, a growth in attendance. The advantages of moving to Nu Metro are not only cost efficiencies, but also to provide more synergistic opportunities between the various divisions."
Exhib connection
Hemphill said the move to Nu Metro would not influence Fox's relationship with Ster Kinekor Theaters. "We will of course continue to supply product to them regardless of the size or potential of the film."
Because of Fox's relationship with MGM, Nu Metro will handle Lion titles including "Windtalkers" and the James Bond film "Die Another Day." Until now, the 007 franchise has been handled in South Africa by UIP.
