Indian TV distribs partner

Sony Entertainment Television India and Discovery Communications India have formed a joint venture to distribute their channels in India.

Sony Entertainment will take a 74% stake in the new venture, SET Discovery, with Discovery holding 26%.

Shantonu Aditya, head of Sony Entertainment's distribution business, said the addition of Discovery would make it the top television network in the country, distributing Sony, Sony Max, AXN, Discovery, CNBC and Animal Planet.

Sony Entertainment also provides Hindi programs, reaching more than 29 million households. Discovery Channel was launched in India in 1995 and reaches 21 million households.
