Viana tops pic acad

Luiz Antonio Viana has been chosen as prexy of the new Brazilian Film Academy, which is taking over local kudofest the Brazilian Cinema Award.

Viana is the former CEO of BR Distribuidora, the Brazilian oil company that sponsors the awards.

The government created and organized the first ceremonies, held in 2000 and 2001. This year's event has been shifted to August. Academy members -- actors, directors, producers and reps from distribs and exhibs -- will choose nominees and winners through direct voting.
