Inside move: It's 'Brady' v. 'Rhea' for 'Rosie' vets
Staff joins Mouse talker, O'Donnell hypes successor
|
Four staffers boasting "The Rosie O'Donnell Show" on their resumes -- supervising producers Krysia Plonka and John Redmann and producers Maria Notaras and Shane Farley -- have joined "Wayne."
"Wayne" and "Caroline," both talk-variety shows skedded to debut in syndication this fall, already have fought to claim the time periods on local stations that Warners-distributed "Rosie" is vacating. The "Rosie" timeslots on the ABC O&Os ultimately went to Buena Vista Television-distribbed "Wayne."
Meantime, Warners -- which, along with O'Donnell herself, has been pitching "Caroline" as the continuation of the "Rosie" franchise -- gave up part of its show's backend to the Alphabet to secure latenight time on the ABC stations.
Now the "Rosie" staff is splitting up.
Neither show will feature "Rosie's" exec producer; O'Donnell's longtime manager Bernie Young was showrunner for her skein.
Oddly enough, however, it's latenight vets Robert Morton and Bernie Brillstein exec producing "Wayne" -- which is going in the daytime spots. Bridget Potter, who has roots in such daytime talkers as "The Mike Douglas Show," will run "Caroline" in latenight.
Warners production unit Telepictures, which produced "Rosie," will produce "Caroline" on "Rosie's" old set. "Rosie" director Debbie Miller will direct "Caroline," out of Gotham.
Buena Vista will produce "Wayne" in Los Angeles. Liz Plonka ("Late Night With Conan O'Brien") will direct.
