Veteran network broadcast journalist

Elizabeth Shanov, veteran network broadcast journalist who covered stories ranging from the O.J. Simpson trial to football's Super Bowl, died June 9 at her Monrovia, Calif., home after a three-year battle with cancer. She was 49.

Shanov spent the past 27 years as a reporter and producer for ABC, CBS and the Associated Press radio networks. She began her broadcast career with WCBS-AM all-news radio station in New York City.

Among the stories she covered for the networks were the Simpson trial for CBS; the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles for ABC; Academy Award, Emmy and Grammy shows; and several Super Bowls.

Most recently she covered all the major Los Angeles sports teams on a regular basis as well as sporting events such as the 2002 Rose Bowl in Pasadena, the 2001 baseball All-Star Game in Seattle, and the 2002 NHL All-Star Game in Los Angeles.

A communications graduate of Fordham U., Shanov began her journalism career as a writer for the Wall Street Journal and Newsday.

A resident of Monrovia since 1991, she was an active member of the Monrovia Old House Preservation Group and created and maintained the organization's first Web site.

Shanov is survived by husband Lawrence J. Marotta, a sister; and her mother.
