MTV moves Exarhos up to exec VP

Cabler vet tapped for marketing duty

Tina Exarhos has been upped to the newly created post of exec VP of marketing for MTV.

While continuing to perform the duties she held in her most recent position, as senior VP of communications and music marketing, Gotham-based exec also will assume the role previously held by Christina Norman, who was recently named exec VP-general manager of VH1. Norman had been senior veep of marketing and on-air promotion at MTV. New post brings together the various marketing disciplines under one head.

Exarhos will report directly to Van Toffler, MTV and MTV2 prexy. She will now be responsible for the on- and off-air marketing and branding of MTV, MTV2 and MTV.com. Her new duties will include overseeing the marketing efforts for MTV's programming and businesses, which include short-form visual packaging, on- and off-air graphics, online marketing, movie promotion and consumer and trade advertising. She will continue overseeing music marketing and on- and off-air contests and promotion.

The top marketing post at MTV is a significant one within the company. In fact, when MTV Networks Music Group prexy Judy McGrath announced Norman's new gig in April, she said the marketing jobs are "the soul of the operation" at MTV Networks. McGrath and MTV Networks' chairman-CEO Tom Freston both held top marketing jobs at MTV at some point in their careers.

Exarhos joined the company in 1986.
