CEO to talk on technology's impact on homevid industry

Former Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Peter Guber will deliver the keynote address July 16 at the VSDA's 2002 convention.

Guber, now chairman of multimedia venture Mandalay Entertainment, will focus on technology's impact on the homevideo industry and ways that retailers can effectively compete. He will also talk about managing a business, the importance of taking risks and the ins and outs of the movie business.

Guber recently wrote "Shoot Out: Surviving Fame and (Mis) Fortune in Hollywood" with Daily Variety editor-in-chief Peter Bart. The book was released this month.

During his career, Guber has been involved with, among other pics, "Midnight Express," "The Color Purple," "Flashdance," "Rain Man," "Batman," "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and "Enemy at the Gates."

"Guber's 30-plus years of experience and his extraordinary vision for the business of our industry are sure to provide value to all our attendees," VSDA president Bo Andersen said. "An added plus for all of us who love movies, Peter's stories about the inner workings of films and how they get made will be a thrill."

The VSDA convention is slated for July 16-18 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
