Prexy of NBC O&O TV stations 1991-97

John Rohrbeck, prexy of NBC O&O TV stations 1991-97, died Saturday April 27 in Los Angeles from bladder cancer. Manhattan resident was 62.

Olympia, Wash., native earned a biz admin degree from the U. of Washington, then worked with a Seattle ad agency, later becomingan L.A.-based network sales exec with ABC, NBC and KNBC.

While general manager for NBC station WRC-TV in Washington, D.C., he developed the nationally syndicated program "The McLaughlin Group." He returned to KNBC-TV as prexy-G.M. 1984-91, expanding local news coverage, creating L.A.'s first 6 a.m. newscast and putting the channel in first place with viewers for local news coverage.

As head of the NBC stations division, he was credited with improving ratings and profits at the 11 network-owned stations.
