Broadway grosses

B.O. off; 'Wood' 379g

NEW YORK -- Broadway grossed dipped during Week 49 (April 29-May 5), slipping by 5.2% to $13,646,171. Attendance of 228,887 was off by a similar 5.9%. Grosses continue to lag behind last season's numbers.

Shows declined virtually across the board, with a few exceptions. "The Lion King" played an extra perf and rose to $1,211,375 for the week. "Into the Woods" got a big $83,563 boost to $379,203 during its opening week. "Sweet Smell of Success" also rose as John Lithgow returned to a full sked of performances.

By contrast, "The Crucible," which played only seven performances, took a hit.

The 19 musicals grossed $10,291,067 for 75.4% of the Broadway total. Attendance of 158,890 was at 75.7% of capacity.

The 15 plays grossed $3,355,104 for 24.6% of the Broadway total, with attendance of 69,997 representing 62.5% of capacity.

Average ticket prices were $64.77 for musicals, $47.93 for plays and $59.62 for all shows.
