John Roberdeau

Oscar-nominated producer

John Roberdeau died Monday at New York's Cabrini Medical Center of a heart attack. He was 48.

Fort Belvoir, Va., native began working with longtime producing partner Robert Michael Geisler in 1978. Their many productions include Terrance Malick's "The Thin Red Line," Robert Altman's "Streamers" and Dennis Potter's "Secret Friends," which the pair also distributed when the film failed to find a buyer. In 1998, the pair were nomninated for an Academy Award for "The Thin Red Line."

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) recently sought out Roberdeau and Geisler to bring his book "Faith of My Fathers" to the screen. Roberdeau announced their acquisition of the bestselling memoir about the former POW just last month (Daily Variety, April 23, 2002).

Roberdeau is survived by his mother, brother, niece and sister-in-law.
