Org hails Earth, Wind & Fire

Group nabs Heritage Award, has sold over 30 million albums

Earth, Wind & Fire will receive ASCAP's Rhythm & Soul Heritage Award at the 15th annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards gala June 17 at the BevHilton.

The group, which has won six Grammy Awards, has sold more than 30 million albums and is memorialized in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Award will presented at ceremonies that also honor the songwriters and publishers of the top ASCAP songs on the 2001 R&B/hip-hop, dance, rap and reggae charts.

"Maurice White, Philip Bailey, Verdine White and company have created a lasting body of work that transcends category," said Marilyn Bergman, president and chairman of the performing rights org. "The music of Earth, Wind & Fire is memorable, joyous and endlessly inventive."
