Fox rushes to Pop Warner pic

Lloyd Entertainment to produce tale of influential coach

Fox 2000 has snapped up a pitch by Craig Sherman and Bob Jury on legendary football coach Glenn S. "Pop" Warner and his first season at the Carlisle Indian School.

The untitled pic will be produced by Lauren Lloyd's Lloyd Entertainment banner, nascent company's 16th project in as many months. It will be overseen by Fox production VP Peter Kang.

Warner, credited with innovations such as the double-wing formation and practicing numbered plays, coached at Carlisle from 1899 to 1903 and 1907 to 1914. He developed several outstanding players, most notably Jim Thorpe. Story is understood to be in the vein of "Remember the Titans."

Warner's character was portrayed by Charles Bickford in the 1951 Burt Lancaster pic "Jim Thorpe -- All-American."

Sherman, repped by Gersh and Lloyd Entertainment, previously wrote showbiz sendup "New Suit" for Trillion Entertainment and produced by Ricka Fisher. Jury, repped by Paradigm and Starstruck Films, participated in the Disney Writers Fellowship program.
