L.A. fest turns to Cuaron
Helmer's IFP duties include hosting a retreat and sidebar
In the newly created role, Cuaron will host a two-day filmmaker retreat, program a sidebar of films that have inspired his work and attend opening-night festivities. IFP/Los Angeles will announce the complete fest lineup later this month.
"We're thrilled that Alfonso Cuaron is participating in the Los Angeles Film Festival," said IFP/LA exec director Dawn Hudson. "Alfonso embodies the uniqueness of vision and independent spirit we champion in our organization."
"Y Tu Mama Tambien" has grossed more than $5 million in a month's limited release through domestic distributor IFC Films.
More than 30,000 attendees are expected at this year's event, the second under the auspices of IFP/Los Angeles. This year's fest has expanded to include international films and a variety of special events and outdoor screenings, with Richard Raddon continuing as fest director. Last year's fest screened such pics as "Kissing Jessica Stein," "George Washington," "The Cruise" and "Dead Man."
Fest's premier sponsors are In Style and Target Stores. Principal sponsors are American Airlines, the Directors Guild of America, Eastman Kodak Co., Hotel Sofitel and the Independent Film Channel.
