Freeman will present his latest pic, "High Crimes," on opening night.
Other screenings include Spike Lee's "Bamboozled" and local veteran helmer Carlos Diegues' classic "Chica da Silva." Fest includes shorts, features and docus.
AfroFest also will feature workshops and seminars with prominent Brazilians discussing the contributions of African-Americans and Afro-Brazilians to the film industry.
Fest is sponsored by the U.S. Consulate in Rio de Janeiro, art exhib Estacao Botafogo, Pontifical Catholic University and the Motion Picture Assn. They hope to make AfroFest an annual event.
