'Shield' shines in ratings

Five companies pull ads despite ratings climb

NEW YORK -- FX's controversial cop show "The Shield" restored some of its audience power last week-- but prickly advertisers continue to bail out in alarming numbers.

Five companies have pulled their ads from "The Shield" in the last week or so: the U.S. Army, Subaru, Honda Power Equipment, Gillette and MCI 1-800-Collect. These five join the exodus from previous weeks, including Burger King, John Deere, Office Depot and New Balance Shoes.

FX said five advertisers have recently signed up for "The Shield": Combe Feminine Products, Capt. Morgan Malt Liquor, Phillips Electronics, Cingular Wireless and Palm Pilot.

On the ratings front, the April 9 episode of "The Shield" climbed from a 2.2 rating in cable homes to a 3.0. Latter rating for "Shield" made it the highest-rated scripted drama series in all of cable for the week, and 28th overall.
