Video director a shoo-in for D'Works' 'Topsiders'
Meyers helmed vids for Jackson, Elliott, Pink

The 29-year-old Meyers is a former assistant at Paramount who financed his own short reel, which led to him becoming a prolific lenser of MTV fare. This week he's in Spanish Harlem to direct Jennifer Lopez's next video; he then heads to Orlando, Fla., to do one with Creed. He recently directed videos for Janet Jackson, Missy Elliott and Pink, among others.
Meyers, who is repped by Endeavor and Evolution, reportedly had the right take on "Topsiders," a project of scribes Justin Merz and Jonathan Rosenbloom that was set up by Evolution's Burg and Koules at DreamWorks last month. Pic is about kids who try to find a legendary treasure buried underground, and the title refers to the people who dwell beneath the surface, in subways and elsewhere.
DreamWork's Marc Haimes is shepherding the project with Michael De Luca, and Walter Parkes has come aboard as exec producer. "Topsiders" becomes the second project at the studio for Meyers, who's also developing vigilante drama "The Owl" with producers Chuck and Larry Gordon. One of these films likely will mark Meyers' feature debut.
"Dave has been someone whose work we've been following for a long time," De Luca said, "and when he said that one of his favorite films was 'Goonies' and this had the potential to be reminiscent of that film, it brought a smile to our faces because it is one of our favorites." ("Goonies" was produced by DreamWorks partner Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment.)
