ABC shifts 'Blue' back to 10

Bochco drama returns to timeslot for sweeps

ABC is shifting cop drama "NYPD Blue" back to its traditional 10 p.m. Tuesday slot for the May ratings sweeps.

Steven Bochco-produced skein will shift from its current 9 p.m. slot on April 30, replacing the Bochco-produced "Philly." Latter skein ends its first season April 23.

Alphabet will air another hourlong "Blue" on May 7 and a two-hour season finale from 9-11 p.m. on May 21. ABC hasn't yet decided what it will air 10 p.m. Tuesday on May 14. From 8-10 p.m. that night, net will air an installment of its mega-miniseries "Dinotopia."

The "Blue" move is part of ABC's all-out effort to avoid finishing in fourth place for the 2001-02 season. In addition, net hopes to give local affils' 11 p.m. newscasts a boost by scheduling the still-strong "Blue" as a local news lead-in.
