ABC takes 'Popular' turn with Rue casting

Minsky pilot scores thesp

"Popular" thesp Sara Rue has nabbed the lead in ABC/Touchstone Television's untitled Terri Minsky comedy pilot.

Deal is one of the last to close as the networks wrap up casting on their pilots.

Rue, whose recent film credits include "Pearl Harbor," will portray a young woman who lands a position as assistant to a TV anchor (Eric Roberts) and must confront an array of office politics associated with the network news biz, as well as her more glamorous officemates.

Rue is repped by Innovative Artists and managed by Alan David.

Separately, Fox has rolled the Regency TV-produced Alan Zweibel-penned comedy pilot to midseason. Project had not yet been cast.
