FullAudio scores Warner tracks
Netco nabs non-exclusive rights to tunes for streaming
Deal gives FullAudio non-exclusive access to Warner tracks for streaming and download. In an advance from many of the current digital music models, FullAudio users will also be allowed to transfer WMG music to portable players and, when technology allows, digital set-top boxes.
The license from Warner, whose roster includes Faith Hill, Eric Clapton, Madonna, Linkin Park and Missy Elliott, is FullAudio's third such pact for online tracks. Netco has already cleared digital rights from Universal Music Group and EMI. It has also negotiated publishing deals with UMG, EMI and BMG Entertainment.
FullAudio said it will include the WMG tracks in a subscription service launch through radio giant Clear Channel Communications set for later this month. The service will eventually roll out on the Web sites for 30 Clear Channel stations.
Netco already faces competition in an increasingly crowded digital distribution market.
Two label-backed subscription services, MusicNet and Pressplay, rolled out late last year, but have met with lukewarm demand from consumers accustomed to free services from Napster and its many offspring. And fellow indie Listen.com has already signed licensing deals with four of the five majors to offer its on-demand music streaming service.
