NBC calls on Gregory charm for 'Other'

TV thesp hoped to heal ailing rookie talker

HOLLYWOOD -- NBC Enterprises hopes TV thesp Dorian Gregory will be its lucky charm for fledgling rookie syndie "The Other Half."

Gregory, a regular on WB series "Charmed," has been installed as a new co-host for the low-rated strip -- which, on paper, seems iffy for renewal next season.

Yet when news came that NBC was about to name a fresh talent and had locked up next season clearances for "The Other Half" with the Gannett and Hearst-Argyle station groups (Daily Variety, April 8), its chances for a return looked better.

"With the casting of Dorian, we have been able to continue the momentum of the show and provide stations with a new co-host heading into May sweeps," said NBC Enterprises chief Ed Wilson.

At this point, "The Other Half" still lacks key New York and Los Angeles clearances on NBC-owned stations.

Joining Gregory, who has also appeared on "Lois & Clark" and "3rd Rock From the Sun," are current "Other Half" co-hosts Dick Clark, Danny Bonaduce and Mario Lopez.
