Wonder tuner bows with Khan in Vegas

Venetian to host fete, show looking for at least 2-year run

LAS VEGAS -- "Signed, Sealed, Delivered," a $2 million concert production celebrating the music of Stevie Wonder, has skedded its world premiere May 25 at the C2K Showroom of the Venetian Resort here. Producers are planning a London launch of the show, created and directed by Billy Porter, by year's end, and hope to be Broadway-bound by 2003.

Chaka Khan is inked to bow as the first "Signed" guest headliner, with each headliner expected to do a four- to six-week stint. No other guest headliners were disclosed. The "Signed" cast includes eight Broadway performers and a 10-piece live band.

Co-producer David Michaels said they considered other cities before settling on Vegas. He said, "We looked at the other shows that premiered there recently. It is a family show. We wanted a captive audience right away."

Michaels said Wonder is aware of the project, but is not yet involved with the show, nor has he officially endorsed it. Michaels hopes Wonder will agree to be a part of the production.

"Signed, Sealed, Delivered" is the first joint venture for MAG Prods., formed specifically for this project.

Besides Michaels, its principals are Andrew Ackerman, Matthew Greene and Hilla Moll, who are experienced in the production and promotion of concerts, shows and London legiters such as "De La Guarda," "Simply Sondheim" and "Blast!"

MAG is hoping for at least a two-year Vegas run.
