Def Jam reups with Murder Inc.
Label inks 5-year pact with hot music co.
Terms of the new deal weren't disclosed.
"I re-signed with Island Def Jam because of my relationship with 'Lansky,' a.k.a. Lyor Cohen, who I feel is like my father in the music business," Murder Inc. founder Irv Gotti said of IDJ's prexy and chief exec. "I started with him, and I'm going to finish with him."
Gotti started Murder Inc. in 1997, following a stint in the A&R department at Def Jam Records. Exec's signings include Rule, whose two LPs "Rule 3:36" and "Pain Is Love" have been certified triple- and double-platinum, respectively.
Exec has also produced work from Jay-Z, DMX, Mary J. Blige and Michael Jackson, among others.
