Swedes sell 'Harem' to Russia, France

Reality show has four love-struck couples competing for top prize

AMSTERDAM -- "Harem," another reality-TV property from hot Swedish format-maker Strix, is heading to Russia and France.

In the format, four young women in a lush tropical setting preside over a hunky male harem, whose members must do their every bidding. In the end, four love-struck couples compete for the top prize, a romantic journey around the world. Also, the male finalists walk away with a cash prize.

"Harem" will be carried in Russia by CTC, a channel 75% owned by Strix parent group Modern Times Group (MTG). Endemol France will produce a Gallic version, although no deals have yet been struck with a specific channel. The two additions make it six territories for the format.

Adding to its stable

"Harem" aired in Sweden, Denmark and Norway last season, and is being broadcast on Finland's Channel Four. It has also been optioned in the U.S. by Jonathan Goodson Prods.

Endemol previously produced Strix format "The Bar" in Switzerland.

Strix formats "Trading Places," "Villa Medusa" and "The Farm" also have been optioned in France.

It is the first time that any of the Strix shows, which have been sold or optioned to 33 territories, will be produced in Russia. Strix marketing manager Jonas Linnander-Manfred said, "Reality formats are very strong in that territory."
