Star is news in India

Network set for expansion

MUMBAI -- Star TV Network announced Sunday that it would launch its own news network in India, following News Corp. chief Rupert Murdoch's visit to the territory last week.

Channel is skedded to bow March 31, 2003, the same month Star News ends its contract with New Delhi Television, the web's chief content provider. During his visit, Murdoch stressed that News Corp.-owned Star network must set up its own news channel.

The news section will be based in Mumbai with 250 personnel and an investment of over $52 million. Net will have Hindi-lingo content plus a few English programs.
