Sweden fest topper ankles

World Brief

After 15 years with Sweden's Gφteborg Film Festival -- Scandinavia's largest annual showcase -- fest director Gunnar Bergdahl announced Tuesday that he has decided to quit.

"Having taken the festival through its 25th anniversary, I think it is time for a change. I do not have new commitments, but I will stay in the film business," Bergdahl told Variety. This year's showcase took a record number of 109,000 admissions, and received 1,800 accredited guests.

A former journalist, Bergdahl has several documentaries to his credit, including two interview films with Swedish director Ingmar Bergman, and "Ljudmila's Voice", which won a Golden Bug -- the local Oscar -- as best documentary 2001.
